After having my two eldest daughters, I decided that I wanted to train within the beauty industry, something that I had always wanted to do when I first left school, but the opportunity didn’t arise and my career path went in a slightly different direction. I began my training and immediately I was hooked! After studying my level 2 and 3 within beauty, I also started a full time nail diploma course where I achieved a level 2 and 3 within nail technology. This was where my real passion for nails began.

I started in a salon in Maldon, developing my skills and experience, and at the same time still continuing to do lots of extra separate nail courses with my existing tutor continuing the learn and develop within the nail industry. After a while, I was fortunate enough to take over my tutors existing client base which was based in Chelmsford as her plan was to emigrate. I began taking over her client base in a small salon in Chelmsford renting a chair with the existing clients and also at the same time growing my client base.

An opportunity arose to work more locally to my home in a hair salon based in Maldon. I began working in a room, on my own and over the months growing my client base sufficiently enough to be able to take on my first member of staff, who had trained at the same academy as myself. The business grew and my area in the salon was changed, allowing a small beauty room to be open on the premises. Our services expanded from just nails to offering many varied beauty treatments. I remained in the hair salon running the small business for over five years, managing five members of staff within that time.

Over time it was clear that we were growing and needed a bigger premises! In January 2018,  After a two month refurbishment, ‘Kate Nails and Beauty’ was opened on the 19th of March, with four nail desks and one therapy room and three full-time members of staff. The client base quickly grew and so did the team reaching a full capacity within the new premises. Which then I realised that an even bigger salon would be needed to continue to offer all services to our clients and also expand on our treatments.

A new and much larger premises was found in the centre of Maldon high street over three floors, giving me the opportunity to expand the growing business. I was able to offer all different types of services over three floors. Hair, hands and feet and many varied types of beauty treatments and specialised skincare and aesthetics on our lower level. After a huge six month refurbishment we opened the new salon on July the 12th.

Along with our last move, I decided to change the name from "Kate Nails and Beauty" to "Kate Lifestyle". I felt the name change was appropriate as we were able to offer a much larger range of services than before that truly are a lifestyle for our clients.
